Dear VikiVisa - WikiVisa,
Greetings from Boise, Idaho!
When we speak with prospective boarding students, they tell us that they are excited about the prospect of making new friends, living in a new city, competing on athletic or academic teams, and challenging themselves in the classroom.
At Riverstone, we give our students the opportunity to challenge themselves in another way: by exploring the mountains, rivers, and deserts of Idaho, Oregon, and Utah with classmates and teachers.
As experts in outdoor education, we know that our outdoor trips are the perfect place for students to learn environmental responsibility, outdoor skills, and life skills such as compassion, determination, resilience, and independence.
Outdoor trips also provide the perfect backdrop to build friendships with classmates and teachers that lead to a more positive classroom experience. As we say often, not all of our classrooms have walls!
Besides being a safe, vibrant city, Boise is the perfect home base to explore the following destinations:
Grade 9: Three-day backpacking trip to the Sawtooth Mountains in the fall and seven days in Grand Gulch, Utah in the spring.
Grade 10: Three-day backpacking trip to the Sawtooth Mountains in the fall and five-day backpacking trip to the Rogue River Wilderness in Oregon.
Grade 11: Four-day college college counseling tour of the Pacific Northwest in the fall (you’re right...this is not exactly outdoors but it is a trip with classmates! More on college counseling in another email!), a winter camping trip, and in the spring they will spend 4 days at the YMCA Horsethief Camp for a College Counseling/Outdoor retreat.
Grade 12: Three-day backpacking trip to the Sawtooth Mountains in the fall and three days of rock climbing inthe City of Rocks National Reserve in the spring.
Check out this short video featuring our grade 10 students as they backpack and canoe through the Rogue River Wilderness in Oregon. If you’d like to get a jump on learning how to pack a backpack, check out this video.
I will leave you with the words of John Muir, "Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt."
If you have any questions about our outdoor program, please email me, or come visit and take a tour!
Don’t forget that to start your next adventure, you need to start it here.
Adventure Awaits!
Sincerely,
Rachel Pusch
