Re-opening our schools safely

We are looking to open our schools as soon as it’s safe and practical to do so. We need to keep in mind lockdown easing measures in the UK, USA & Canada as well as any travel restriction measures that these governments are putting into place. 

This week, the UK government have put in place plans to ask all those travelling to the UK to self isolate for 14 days upon arrival. We understand that the only current exemptions to this rule are those arriving from France and Ireland. Despite calls by the UK travel industry, the government have not as of yet put in place an end date to this measure. For more information on the UK’s policy, please see the BBC website which offers regular updates on this topic. We’ll keep you updated with any major news on this topic. 

The UK government have now put in place guidelines as to how the country will gradually ease the lockdown measures currently in place. It would seem that all lockdown lifting measures are subject to effective containment of the disease, but should everything go to plan, it would seem that some hospitality businesses will be able to re-open in July providing that social distancing measures are in place. 

We are keen to re-open as soon as we are able to! We are even looking at the possibility of opening our UK centres whilst the quarantine procedure is still in place. We envisage the students studying with us at that time to either be in the UK already or those who are willing to travel despite the quarantine rule. We will be speaking with you to get your feedback and making some internal assessments and will be in touch with an opening date when it has been decided. We are targeting either some point in July or early August at the moment. 

With regards to our North American centres, we are looking at reopening possibly at the end of June/beginning of July for St Giles New York and early July for St Giles Vancouver (in accordance with their travel restrictions). Our reopening plans are dependent on government policies in all of our regions & as these are in flux at the moment, we will need to keep the dates under review.  We’ll keep you updated when we have confirmed re-opening dates in place! 

Safety is our number one concern & we are looking at putting in place additional health & safety measures when we re-open with policies such as social distancing in the classroom & easy availability of hand sanitizer at our entrances & throughout our schools. We are also looking at ways to keep our accommodation as safe as possible. A full set of safety policies will be confirmed soon & we’ll keep you updated via email & our website 

The St Giles Flexible Guarantee

We know that students are nervous about booking & travelling in the near future due to the uncertain situation at present. Our Flexible Guarantee allows students to cancel or postpone their booking at any of our adult year-round centres without incurring any tuition or accommodation cancellation fees (both homestay & residence bookings). Direct costs (e.g. express mail fees) are the only fees that will be passed on. The guarantee is available to those who enrol on adult year-round courses during the period 16^th March-30^th June 2020. We may choose to extend the guarantee for bookings received after the end of June and we’ll be in touch about this in due course. 

Provided that 7 days notice is given, we can also now apply the flexible guarantee to all students with bookings taking place from 1^st August-30^th September 2020, including those who are rebooking postponed courses to take place during that time. 

Book Now, Pay Later: The St Giles Easy Pay Policy

We know now is a difficult time to make payments up front for bookings taking place a long way in the future. As usual with St Giles, you can still make your booking without needing to pay a deposit. We just need all payment to be received prior to the student’s arrival date, unless special terms have been previously agreed.

When we closed our schools we launched our popular St Giles Live course, combining virtual lessons, access to our e-learning platform, academic support and a virtual social programme. Our video is now available to view here.
