UK Points-Based immigration System - further details announcement
Dear Igor Ozerin
Yesterday, Monday 13 July, the government published further detail on the UK's points-based immigration system.
The new system will take effect from 1 January 2021, once freedom of movement with the EU has ended. It will treat EU and non-EU citizens equally, which will mean changes to the way EU nationals apply to work and study in the UK. To help you prepare, further detail has been published setting out:
Immigration routes
We are introducing bespoke routes to enable more students, scientists, academics, investors, entrepreneurs, and NHS workers to come to the UK more easily and contribute to our economic growth.
There will also be no limit on the number of international students who can come to the UK to study and we will be launching the Graduate route in Summer 2021 to allow those who have completed a degree or master’s at a higher education provider to stay in the UK for two years and those who have completed a PhD for three years. They will be able to work at any skill level, and to switch into skilled work routes if they find a suitable job.
EU citizens already living in the UK
If you’re an EU citizen living in the UK by 31 December 2020, you and your family can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021. The deadline for applying is 30 June 2021.
To find out more about the EU Settlement Scheme and apply, visit GOV.UK
Further information
To support you to prepare for the new system, we have created an introductory guide to the UK’s points-based immigration system for EU citizens, which can be found here on GOV.UK
